A doll quilt for me

It has been a while since I have chatted!!

A family holiday away (snaps to come) has brought me back to lots of 'show and tell':

First up:

My DQS7 quilt has arrived! From Amanda of Modernacorn (flickr: msmcporkchop)

Wonderfully simple and modern - I really like it!! She remembered my love of Kaffe and added some fave of mine AMH! I love the buttery cream of the solid fabric and the quilting is quite inspirational. I love the freedom of the straight over the wavy, or is it the wavy over the straight and not all over the quilt either - not needed!!

I have to remember all these points when I am doing my next one - don't be held back by convention - take a chance that less is more!

I am going to make a sleeve for the back to hang it and a quick label so that I remember who it is from, in years to come.

(How did she know I love roosters?)

Oh and the generous extras of Kaffe's Paperweight in Sludge (love that description!) and some gorgeous purple shot cotton (which I didn't realise at first, until I saw it under lights, and the depth and shine of it came out) is just terrific.

May have to get me some more of that one!!

My DQS 7 quilt

Based on a design from Material Obsession Book 1, which Leah, of pugglelogic, mentioned, I made this view out the window, oooh, that reminds me, I haven't named it yet;

Window View will be its name.

It's got curved piecing, crazy piecing, needleturn applique and iron-on applique - the mixture of applique is a long story - basically, I was growing too impatient with the needle-turn, and not really putting in the hard yards to learn how to do it properly (sorry Claire and Cathy; n-t-a queens!!) I really need a hands-on lesson methinks!

It is not my best work, but I was quietly pleased with it - of course, hubbie wanted it to stay home - He Loved It! God Bless him! Maybe that had to do with his wonderful suggestion of quilting sunshine rays across the quilt.

I added some cute sock monkey and banana fabric - I think they would all suit Leah and her family! Glad she likes it!

More DQS7 peeking

Well, first, as promise, fabrics for the back of my Patisserie Hexagon quilt:

now, a little bit more of a peek of my DQS7- I am kinda sorta happy with it - again, hubbie loves it and wants it to stay - it is not something that I would normally gravitate to - so maybe that's why he loves it so??

I have taken it to work to sew the binding, and now that I am looking at it - it does look a little wrinkly - hmmmm? More quilting needed??

Back in the land of the living

Hello World! I am back walking and talking and coughing and working and coughing and sewing and running and...well you get the gist.

After a severe bout of throatus-most-painfulitis, then head-full-of-chartruese goo, then very very annoying tickle in the throat-must cough- can not stop coughing, which has now given me Very sore-needing to be strapped-ribs, I feel a little better!!

I am actually heading off to my first training session in weeks, despite the cold air playing havoc with my 'tickle' and my ribs having a little yell - and boy, am I ready! I am itching to go - this coming from the slobbiest girl in the world - you may think that's you, but no it's me - really!

After a good couple of weeks with very low sewing mojo - I found it again:

DQS7 - finally started - my partner likes a certain designer/book/quiltmakers (can't say who incase they are listening!), borrowed the book from the library (of course!), found one I could do and whipped this up - not finished, but kinda close. Got to practice some curved piecing - it actually worked!

Just love love love love them - they have such a lovely ethereal, wintery, gentle look and I am a big fan of teddy bears from way back

Don't you love a seller who goes all out with their product - this is the envelope!! I could frame this too - maybe not, but it is not going in the recycling!

Biggest achievement for me at this end of The Sickness, is a spur of the moment sewing success!

Had a fave T-shirt - red and offwhite stripes with a large applique navy flower on top corner - started to fray on bottom - so I Cut It Up! Yes it felt good and adventurous and daring! The family were aghast! 4 inch squares, sewn together on the diagonal, gives me this:

Best and quickest and easiest scarf eva! So t-shirty soft and goes with my prodominately grey/navy winter wardrobe. Would love to say that the idea just popped into my tiny brain, but that would be lying - got it from here! Linked from wonderful site here!

I know I am going to lose you when you travel to those sites - but do come back sometime - I cross-my-heart I will be posting more sewing mojo successes!

My DQS6 for PWMG

As the label says - this one was for Helen, of Patchy Work of Mini Grey (have to find out where that title comes from!) - I felt good about it, only right at the very end - the process was a struggle for me this time round - put a bit of pressure on myself cos Helen is super talented and deserved something of quality and lots of COLOUR!

Got a little hint from a comment by her that she liked the colours - so onwards I went. All of the top fabric is Nest by Tula Pink and I had this design in my head for months and months - I knew how I wanted it to look, but the execution - oh my - I was flying by the seat of my pants! I just sewed and cut and sewed and cut and somehow, It Worked.

I like the back set of fabrics too - it reminds me of William Morris' Strawberry Thief.

Quilted with Perle thread - got to match the greens and the strong pink - and I liked the idea of the echo quilting - I think it gives it movement.

I can imagine the eggs nestled in their nest, swaying in the breeze.

Makes me hungry for some fried eggs on toast LOL!

Beautiful houses...not all to my taste...but beautiful none the least.....



and NOT so beautiful....can you believe someone is paying a lot of money to build this? Hubbie suspects that this is the work of Antarctic Scientists, who have build it to withstand the harsh and relentless (semi-temperate) climate.






Happy happy with my DQS6 quilt for.....a swap partner who does the most beautiful art with patchwork.....can't say who yet!!

It has taken me a long time to be at peace with this one. I think I am there. Finally.

How exciting is the doorbell ringing on a Sunday, to find a parcel on the doorstep!!!
